A Young boy talks his way into a new position at the downtown Magic Shop. He already had a fascination with Magic, so this opportunity becomes the job of a lifetime.
While helping the owners (Tom and Les) to straighten up the semi-famous shop, the portage' stumbles across a relic of an antique hidden away all these years in the back storage room. Seems that he's found the original magic box that contains some of the very first tricks and secrets from the master magician Robert Houdin (the man that Harry Houdini actually borrowed his stage name from) and these illusions are a lot more mystical than they ought to be!
It's a coming of age story that showcases the kindness and intelligence of some of magic's more recognizable old timers, who take this young fellow under their wing as they share their personal stories... and... secrets of magic with this young enthusiast. You'll meet master magician Charles Topke who is also the President of The Society of American Magicians, Chuck Daniel's one of the world's best card manipulators, Tom Bishop who's specialty is coin magic, and a very special visit from Professor Brush... an eccentric character right off the stages of San Francisco's Barbary Coast.
This is a wonderful story that weaves a tale... that will draw out the kid in everyone! Based on true events from the late fifties / early sixties, three of magic's young enthusiasts recall their 'childhood memories of the past' to formulate a story of friendship, and to recall growing up in San Francisco during a very magical time.
